Our Cosmetic Dentistry Services in Adelaide

A small change to your smile can make a huge difference in your life. Here are the cosmetic dental services that we offer at My Dentist:

Porcelain & Composite Veneers

At My Dentist, we source only the highest quality veneers from our trusted suppliers.

What Are Veneers?

Custom-made to cover the front of your teeth, veneers are used to modify the appearance of your teeth to improve their appearance. With proper care, maintenance and hygiene, some veneers can last up to 20 years, ensuring that you’ll have a long-lasting new smile.

Why do I need veneers?

We recommend veneers to help with a range of conditions, including stained, chipped or broken teeth and can even fix slight misalignments. They can also be used when you’re concerned about prominent gaps between your teeth.

What are veneers made from?

Veneers are made from either composite resin or porcelain. Composite veneers are more affordable and irreversible, but slightly less durable and more susceptible to staining over time. However, they require fewer visits to your dentist, are less invasive to install and easier to repair if damaged compared to porcelain.

Porcelain veneers on the other hand, will permanently augment the structure of your tooth. They are custom made and better mimic the appearance of your existing tooth enamel.

Veneer Process

Composite Veneers

Composite veneers are applied to your teeth in a single visit to your dentist, with a colour matched resin mixture contoured, shaped and moulded on the surface of your teeth.

It is then quickly cured, or hardened, with a high intensity UV light, before being trimmed and polished, resulting in a similar look and finish to your natural enamel.

Porcelain veneers

Porcelain veneers require up to 3 appointments over a few weeks to fit perfectly. We’ll start by using our state of the art equipment to capture high quality models of your teeth.

Then, we’ll send it to our laboratory to create a customised shell, which is then carefully bonded to each tooth by your dentist.

The bonding process requires a thin layer of enamel to be removed from your teeth, which can’t be reversed. Don’t worry, this entire process is painless as it is completed under local anaesthetic.

Professional Teeth Whitening

Do you hide your smile in fear of people seeing your stained or discoloured teeth? Unfortunately, teeth become stained over time, particularly if you consume a lot of coffee, tea, cola, wine, smoke or neglect oral hygiene. However, this can definitely be fixed.

Teeth whitening helps you to regain your confidence and freely express yourself, so you can show off a dazzling toothy grin once again!

In-Chair vs Take-Home Kits

Our dentists know that you lead a busy lifestyle, so, for your convenience, we offer different types of cosmetic dentist services for teeth whitening:

In-Chair Whitening

You can experience the joy of brighter teeth with just a single in-chair teeth whitening session.

Our dentists will apply a highly concentrated hydrogen peroxide/bleach gel to your teeth, which is activated by a UV light, to effectively remove teeth discolouration and stains.

This process is not painful and can require several re-applications of the gel to achieve the ultimate bright, sparkling white finish.

Custom Take-Home Trays

If you don’t have the time to come in for appointments, we completely understand. Our dentists still have you covered.

We’ll prepare customised teeth whitening trays for you to use at home. On average, each tray lasts up to 12 months. At your initial consultation, your teeth will be scanned and sent to a laboratory to manufacture a removable tray that hugs your teeth perfectly. Once you have received the tray, you can:

  • Apply the whitening gel which is supplied from your dentist, before fitting it over your teeth.
  • Wear the tray for the duration specified by our dentists. Depending on the strength of gel that you were prescribed, this duration could be between 30 minutes to overnight.
  • Remove the tray, rinse your mouth, and avoid eating or drinking for 30 minutes.

Be Wary of DIY Whitening Kits

Though there are many DIY teeth whitening kits available on the market, they may not be as tightly regulated, leading to potential safety issues. This means that you can risk damaging your teeth by using chemicals that weaken your enamel, increase your teeth sensitivity, damage your fillings and irritate your gums. We always recommend seeking professional advice from our friendly dentists before using a DIY kit.

Cosmetic Bonding

A more affordable alternative to veneers, cosmetic bonding is a painless and minimally invasive procedure that is usually performed in a single visit to help restore your smile.

What is cosmetic bonding?

Our dentists use a composite resin that is formulated to match the colour of your teeth to repair mildly cracked, fractured, chipped or discoloured teeth, and also fill small gaps between your teeth. It can even be used to protect your teeth if they are exposed by receding gums.

What is the cosmetic bonding procedure?

Our dentists will begin by selecting a shade of composite resin that matches the rest of your teeth, then prepare the surface of the tooth so it’s ready for the application of resin.

The composite resin is then carefully applied to your teeth in the areas that need fixing. It is then manipulated into the correct shape and thickness before being exposed to a UV light to cure it.

Once it has hardened completely, our dentists will tidy up the bonded area by trimming and polishing it so it blends seamlessly with the rest of your teeth. This process is fast, so you’ll leave our clinic with a fabulous new look straight away.

Should I choose cosmetic bonding or veneers?

Though both procedures will leave you with an enhanced smile, it depends largely on your budget, how large the treatment area is, and how permanent you’d like the changes to be. While veneers are more expensive, they’ll often last longer and are more effective for more extensive tooth repairs.

On the other hand, cosmetic bonding is a faster, less expensive and invasive solution to fixing relatively minor tooth irregularities.

If you’re struggling to decide which option is best to enhance your smile, book in with one of our dentists for an initial assessment.

White Spot Treatment

Are you noticing chalky white spots on your teeth that don’t seem to go away, even if you brush your teeth?

These are known as white spot lesions, and they’re usually the consequence of demineralisation, which is the loss of minerals, causing holes in tooth enamel, eventually leading to tooth decay.

What are the causes of white spot lesions?

  • Early tooth decay
  • Dental plaque accumulating under braces
  • Poor oral hygiene
  • Calcium deficiency
  • Thin enamel due to childhood developmental issues. injuries and illness
  • Acidic or sugary food or drinks
  • Poor diet

ADA compliant

Veneers and cosmetic bonding can conceal unsightly white spots, and teeth whitening will lighten the surrounding enamel to blend better.

However, we also offer several treatments to eliminate white spots, including:

  • Resin Infiltration

This process is minimally invasive, doesn’t require anaesthetics, and does not damage your teeth.

Acid is repeatedly etched to the affected teeth to open up all the micro channels around the white spot.

A special infiltration resin filling with a low viscosity is then applied to the tooth and penetrates the microchannels so that the white spot disappears.

Full Smile Makeovers

At My Dentist, we aim for a natural, effortless look that completely harmonises with your facial features. Often, achieving the perfect looking smile requires a sequence of cosmetic dental procedures. Here is our 4-step process:

Step 1: Teeth realignment

We’ll start with the foundations of achieving a beautiful smile: getting your teeth in the right position. Depending on your initial teeth alignment and individual lifestyle preferences, we’ll usually recommend clear aligners or dental braces.

Step 2: Teeth whitening

We’ll then start working on improving the appearance of your teeth with in-chair whitening or a take home kit.

Step 3: Contouring the gums

After consulting with you, we’ll assess the aesthetics of your gums to uplift your smile even more. Under local anaesthesia, our dentists can reshape your gums or remove excess tissue using either a scalpel or a specialised soft-tissue laser.

Step 4: Teeth restoration

We’ll combine a range of different treatments to replace missing teeth or repair damaged teeth, to further improve the appearance and function. These treatments include:

  • Veneers
  • Dental implants
  • Crowns
  • Bridges
  • Root canal treatment
  • Inlays and onlays
