Tooth Coloured Fillings
Composite bonding or tooth coloured fillings as they are commonly known, have been considered one of the single most important dental innovations.
They are now routinely used as a replacement for silver/mercury fillings.
- Sliver/mercury fillings have never been used at My Dentist.
- When they need replacement a rubber dan is routinely used to prevent aspiration of the metal.
Decay can create a hole which starts as a cavitation in the tooth surface thus allowing bacterial colonies to multiply.
To prevent the enlargement of the decay, it is required to remove bacterial contamination from inside and restore the tooth with a bonded composite.
Unlike silver fillings, modern tooth coloured fillings use adhesive techniques to reduce the amount of tooth removed. This can support and prevent future fracturing.
Prevention is our main aim. Our hygienists will discuss the cause of the decay with you and how we can work as a team to prevent this in the future.
